The Role:

As the Build/Release Engineer, you'll play a critical role in ensuring that out organization and software function at the highest levels of efficacy and efficiency. You will be responsible for putting your talent and passion into making our mobile, web, and IoT experience truly unique and seamless.  We have a fast-paced, highly-collaborative workplace where you will work closely with the product team, web, mobile and infrastructure engineers and embedded software engineers and other teams to create a truly unique product.

 

Things You'll Own/Do:

  • Own build/release scripts for our iOS, Android, Python, Node.js, and Embedded Linux software

  • Manage a multi-team/multi-project custom Linux build for our embedded device

  • Work with QA and product on internal and external release notes

  • Communicate daily with engineers, product managers, project managers, lab technicians, and QA

  • Maintain version numbers and compatibility matrix of numerous software projects spanning multiple platforms

  • Branch and merge with git as required for releases

  • Proactively identify, analyze and improve on potential build and release pipeline bottlenecks

 

Our Ideal Candidate Has:

  • Expert knowledge in configuring and maintaining build & deployment automation with Jenkins

  • Experience with large Makefile and CMake build systems

  • Knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes

  • Strong scripting skills in Bash, Python

  • Strong background in Linux/Unix administration

  • Basic to advanced programming skills using popular high level languages such as Python, Node.js, etc.

  • Experience with GitHub

  • Comfort with collaboration, open communication and reaching across functional borders

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and organizational skills, with a desire to take on responsibility

  • Desire to actively learn and keep up-to-date with industry trends

  • A passion for new technology

  • 2+ years experience in a development or DevOps role supporting development teams in a fast-paced environment

 

Bonus Points For:

  • Familiarity with both GitFlow and Continuous Delivery branch/release strategies

  • Knowledge in multiple cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) is a plus

  • Experience automating Canary deployments and blue/green deployment strategies

  • Experience with microservice architecture is plus

  • Experience with Yocto, Buildroot, or other Linux-from-scratch embedded build system

  • Ability to proactively staying informed regarding security issues and knowledge of required libraries to fix security flaws

  • Possesses basic skill understanding of compile time/link time errors as they relate to dependency chains
